Photography/Art as Therapy

In these sessions I work with the client to create and explore the world of photography and art under my guidance. It is not an art class or a photography class, we simply use art and photography tools to expires what is happening in the inner reality of the client. The focus is not on creating a skilled masterpiece or perfection, just on the expression of oneself, in a safe environment.

The therapeutic use of photography and art making, within a professional relationship, by people who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living, and by people who seek personal development. Through creating art and reflecting on the art products and processes,   people can increase awareness of self and others cope with symptoms, stress and traumatic experiences; enhance cognitive abilities; and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of making art/images.

Art and Photography as therapy uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. Art as therapy integrates the fields of human development, visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms), and the creative process with models of counseling and psychotherapy.

Within these session I use Mindfulness as a base and so teach the client how to be present in themselves, in their actions and creations so that they can become aware and build a deeper sense of themselves which can then reflect positively in their every day life. Mindfulness within Art and Photography session can enhance healing and promote well being on all levels. These sessions are safe, supportive, reflective and peaceful.

Sessions can be held at your location, on location (where I am running training courses in the UK and Scotland, or in my studio in Carnforth, North Lancashire. Please contact me to discuss/book.
